David Nalbandian fought his way back from a disasterous first set, to take the Madrid Masters title from Roger Federer, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Nalbandian managed to do what no other has managed during this tournament, it is the first time that Federer has lost his serve and the first time he has actually lost a game, and of course the first time he has lost a match.
The 25 year old Argentinian also can proudly boast that in winning this title, he has disposed of the worlds top three ranked players. After the first set Nalbandian applied a more aggressive side to his game, leaving Federer pinned back and unable to fight his way out. It was a deserved victory for Nalbandian who has had a frustrating year by his own standards.
Not great news for the Brits who travel to Argentina next year for the Davis Cup games.
